Working for DHL contractors...what are the risks!
82Working for DHL...What Are The Risks?
Working for DHL. What Are The Risk Factors?
Working for DHL has many risk factors. Many of the employers that are hired to work for DHL, including the contractors, end up with many health and safety issues while on the job.
There have been some of the employees to go in with no medical problems at all. Once there, they are stressed to the point of being put on medication for the stress and depression. They are not treated as employees should be. These drivers work from 6 or 6:30 am until anywhere between 6pm and 8pm at night. They are not compensated for any of the work that they do over time. They are put on a set sallery and that is it. Some of the contractors don't even offer medical benefits of any type.
Often, some of the DHL employees that work in the office need certain medical care, and when the injury is done on the job, DHL refuses to let Workman's Comp do what is needed, therefore causing Workman's Comp to refuse surgery to the one's that really medically need it.
Being in the enviroment and exposed to DHL lifestyle has caused many of the people working through them to have many medical problems and they are life time problems for the ones that were exposed to this.
Lots of the vans that are used to deliver in are unsafe and basically death traps. Some of the drivers have even reported the vans that they have basically been forced to driver to the DOT of the state in which they are employeed. If the DOT were to actually pull these vans over, they would actually see the problems of these vans. The problems consist of many many problems. The following list is just to name a few, not all:
- Bad brakes
- No back up signals
- No back up view due to no cameras working or they have been removed from the van completely (no window in rear of van).
- Busted side mirrors that will not remain in place without super glue. Tape hardly ever holds more than 5 miles down the road.
- Side doors will not lock, broken locks, or will not open at all.
There are several of the employers that are now permanently disabled for life because of certain vans not even having tires mainanced on them as they should have been to keep the drivers safe. Many have wires showing and no one has done anything about it on most of the vans, to keep the drivers safe. The drivers can talk and complain about it until they are blue in the face, and yet nothing is hardly ever done about it.
These are just a few medical problems that these people have to live with for the rest of their lives because of DHL and their so called policies...
- Permanent back problems
- Permanent knee problems
- Permanent if not fatal heart problems (there are many that have had serveral heart surgeries and are still required to go back to work asap...hardly even getting time off at all) (heart surgeries include open heart as well as bypasses)
- Permanent stress developed into depression and have had to be put on medication to control it. However unfortunately they had to be told that they would have to take the medications for the rest of their lives.
Now that these things have happened, it will be very difficult for these people to get or maintain jobs elsewhere. These individuals have been permanently marked for life and it's difficult to maintain a job anywhere else. Once they do leave to try to make a living anywhere else, they can't seem to keep a level head to maintain that job.
If you're looking into working for DHL, please consider the above before you actually try to take that step...for your own safety and sake!

I worked for a contractor to DHL. I actually gave a job up to start working for them thinking that the prospects were good. BIG MISTAKE!! I realised within the first couple of weeks that they were not interested in their employees. Everything about it just didn't seem right. The worker's didn't get wage slips or anything!! They had me working 12 hours a day or more with no break or dinner. I was getting home at like 8.45ish at night after setting out from home at 6.30 am. They never asked for my driving licence, my account details to pay my wage or my p45 to pay my tax. After being there 3wks the workers were all getting payed on the usual pay day and I expected the same but was told that I would have to wait an extra month. Expected me to wait 7wks before getting my first pay packet. Wasn't going to stay with them that long. They obviously are not a reputable firm to work for. I am still awaiting a months pay from them and they are trying to avoid paying. STAY CLEAR OF DHL
I WAS WORKING FOR AIRBORNE/CONTRACTOR WAS TRAMSMET IN 1997 AND THEY SOLD TO DHL 7 YEARS LATER AND LEFT OWEING ME 1500.00. THE CONTRACTOR THAT TOOK IT OVER WAS AND IS SER. I WORKED FOR THEM 5 YEARS BEFORE I WAS LAYED OFF IN 2008. I HAD NOT HAD A VACATION IN 4 YEARS. THE VANS THAT I DRIVE WERE UNSAFE FOR BOTH COMPANYS. THEY HAD NO DEVIDERS TO KEEP THE FREIGHT FROM SLIDING FORWARD INTO THE DRIVER. IF THE VAN WAS TO FLIP OVER THE CHANCE OF GETTING OUT ALIVE WAS LESS. JACKS AND SPAIR TIRES WERE LOSS TO MOVE WHEREEVER. BRAKES AND NEW TIRES OR EVEN OIL CHANGES COULD NOT BE DONE BECAUSE THEY HAD NOT PAIED THERE BILLS. TRUCKS AND VANS WERE CONFISCATED AND SOLD FOR NONE PAYMENT.
PART TWO. WHILE WORKING FOR THESES COMPANYS I WORKED AS MEANY AS 51 HOURS WITH NO OVERTIME PAY. I WOULD BE CALLED OUT TO DELIVER FREIGHT AFTER HOURS BECAUSE THE COMPANYS WOULD LIE TO THE CUTOMERS ABOUT WERE THERE PACAGES WERE REALY AT. THEY SENT THEM TO MY HOME SOMETIMES ONLY TO HAVE THEM CURSE ME AND PEAL OUT IN MY YARD. WHILE THE CONTRACTORS WERE NOT PAYING THERE BILLS, I WOULD HELP THE VENDERS GET THERE MONEY BY LETTING THEM HOLD A VAN OR TRUCK UNTIL THEY WERE PAID. I ALSO GAVE THEM PHONE NUMBERS OF THE OWNERS AND BOSSES NUMBERS SO THEY COULD TRY TO COLLECT THERE MONEY.THE BOSS WOULD TRY TO SEND ME TO A COMPANY THAT THE CONTRACTOR DIDN'T OWE MONEY TO SO THEY COULD GET THE WORK DONE AND NOING THEY WOULDN'T BE PAIED FOR A LONG TIME IF EVER. SO I WOULD TELL THE NEW VENDER WHEN I GOT THERE WHAT WAS GOING ON. THEY THANKED ME FOR BEING HONEST SO NOT TO GET INTO THAT. SO I DROVE AS MEANY AS 60.000 MILES OR MORE WITHOUT A OIL CHANGE AND BRAKES TO THE METAL. THE HOLE TIME I DROVE FOR THESES COMPANYS I HAD NO INSURANCE. MY PAY WAS SO LOW I COULDN'T BUY ANY. ($6.00-$10.00) WHEN I WAS LAIED OFF FROM DHL/SER I WAS OWED ALL MOST 1200.00 IN VACATION PAY. I DIDN'T GET IT. I ASK DHL TO HELP ME BUT THEY DIDN'T WANT TO BE INVALVED. I READ THAT HETLER WOULD BE PROUD. NO HE WASN'T EVEN THAT BAD. WHAT HAS HAPPEN TO AMERICA?
I WISH OSHA WOULD CHECK IT OUT. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
WE WERE TOLD BY THE OWNER OF SER THAT IF WE WERE TO BRING IN THE TEAMSTERS THAT HE WOULD CLOSE THE DOORS IN 60 DAYS.
I WILL TELL YOU PEOPLE THIS. HE CAN'T AFORD TO CLOSE DOWN. DON'T LET HIM BLUFF YOU. JOIN THE UNION NOW.
lol... Everything everyone is saying is true! I don't mean to laugh,But these DHL contractors are TERRIBLE!!! I know cause i worked for that piece of crap so called company. I remember racing to the bank with other drivers to cash my check while they're was still funds. Ship with UPS OR FeD EX, where the driver actually care bout thier well paying job!
The comment were true a couple of year ago but now our dep has been take over by better mangerment we now have new 10 & 60 plate vans.. We still work 9 to 12 hour days !!
Dhl is a world class piece of shit company who could give a rats ass about their employees.
Total dirtbags. This is all my opinion.
A company that I ordered a lot of supplies with switched a from ups to dhl for a very brief amount of time and 7 out of 10 packages received were damaged and unusable
Worthless aholes

I worked for DHL and the problem with the Van's and other vehicles is an understatement but on the right track. The conditions and working accomidations were terrible, I just used them as much as they used me to even it out. News in today that most of those jobs will be gone in January. DHL realized the old Airborne way of doing things doesn't work unless you don't care. Hitler would be proud of DHL.
